Welcome to Steampunk Trinketry.

Steampunk is retrofuturistic, an alternative history of the Victorian era. This subgenre of science fiction is inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. The technologies often include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne.

Our collective projects span a number of interests but ultimately they fit within the esthetic of 'Steampunk'. We hope you enjoy our story and the detailed pictures of our projects as much as we've enjoyed making them.

Steamlin

Meet Steamlin.  A new addition to our Steampunk family.

Steamlin is a form of steam gremlin that is normally found living around poorly maintained steam equipment, often tampering and causing further maintenance issues.

While Steamlin can appear friendly he should not be underestimated, full grown steam gremlins are quite heavy, reaching 12kg (26 lbs).  He can be destructive and even dangerous if not guided by an experienced handler.

Signs that you may unknowingly have a steam gremlin living on your premises:

- Constantly finding steam valves out of adjustment

- Single wheel tracks found in utility spaces

- Loose fittings and leaking steam pipes

- Low boiler pressure

- Tampering around gauges or control pannels

Contact artists@steampunktrinketry.com if you need assistance with identifying and removal of a steam gremlin.

Travel Trolley Case

I wanted to step up my costume which had a small briefcase accessory last year, the last few months have been focused on developing my Travel Trolley Case.

Inspired by the treasures that can be found at the local thrift store. This case was developed from the idea that a few wooden boxes can be combined to create one large traveling case. As we collected boxes, hardware and bits of materials, the scope of this project grew.

The trolley is comprised of found items, repurposed materials and less than 5% new material. We had the opportunity to develop new crafting and fabrication skills. The large wheels were fabricated from scrap metal on hand from vehicle and household renovation projects. The aged look was accomplisehd with a chemical process and the rubber warpped and stitched by hand.

Miniature Steam Engine

Not just esthetic, this is a real working little miniature steam engine.

I found a post on Pintrest which said:

This generation is so dead. You ask a kid, 'What are you doing this Saturday?'

and they'll be playing video games or watching cable, instead of building model cars or airplanes or doing something creative.

Kids today never say, 'Man, I'm really into remote-controlled steamboats'

Fear not - there is still a kid out there that would very much say that!

Wirefly

This little guy is made up of a tiny lightbulb, barely bigger than a firefly. I love his little legs and wings made from aluminum wire.

Inspiration for this piece was all the amazing wire wrapped scultpures you find on Pintrest. His twin was auctioned in a visual art fundraiser.

3D Dragon Foil Head Sculpture

Made entirely of foil, the head is sculpted and supported using wire. Metal gears and brads are used throughout the structure and the eyes are glass marbles.

This sculpture was on display in a student showcase at the Waterloo Art Gallerym spring of 2017.
